And then the One said, 'Let there be Redemption.' And a land was formed, a land seperate from all others, it is
a mystical land where souls would be united with new bodies, where they could have a second chance to achieve their ultimate
goal, their ultimate Redemption.
At first the land was successful, and many souls were liberated, however, as every story goes, harmony cannot be kept
forever. Even the Gods could not be pleased, and the One was split. It became the Good, the Evil, and the Neutral.
The Messiah, The Reaper, and Odin, the three gods of the Land.
The Reaper favoured the armies of terror and chaos, spreading his evil throughout the lands of Redemption. The
most powerful armies soon became ordained and loyal to him. He granted them the ability to exchange their souls for
powerful weapons and equipment. He was the one who inspired the creation of clan Kindred.
The Messiah blessed those with holy backgrounds, and those with pure hearts. Over the lands he has released one
of the most remarkable favours of them all, Hope. He was the one who inspired the creation of clan Eclipse.
Odin, the Neutral God of Redemption. He has chosen not to take any particular role in the rule of the lands.
He cares not whether good or evil wins the war, however it was Odin which first inspired the creation of the Neutral Clan,
Chimaera.
When the game begins you are brought into the young, unstable world of Redemption. You start out in Shandalar,
the Capital City of Dominia. Dominia is a large continent which houses a variety of different races and cultures.
You must level up your weakling character, avoiding certain death from monsters and players alike, you must eventually become
a powerful level 20 character.
Humans, Elves, and Dwarves first came to Dominia from the far West, hoping to find new prosperity in this unexplored
land. Unfortunately all they found were barbaric monsters and barren, evil wastelands. During their searches,
they found only one habitable piece of land, they settled in, and named it Shandalar.
As you begin to notice how the world of Redemption works, you will see that humans are not the prevailing race.
In fact, the humans in this world are in a constant struggle to keep balance to the small area of land they control.
Shandalar's militia has been at war with the Orcish Armies of the South for many years now, and the battles continue in the
region of 'Kenwood.'
Most of the elves and dwarves have retreated to their own seperate settlements around Dominia, whilst some live in harmony
with the humans of Shandalar.
Of course the only way to balance evil and good is to get rid of one or the other until they are both equal, or until
one of those sides is eradicated for good. This is not a simple task, it is a long road for any heroes who wish
to achieve such a goal.
You will be able to join clans and fight other enemy clans. Help defenders of Dominia fight the many evils, or
help strengthen the many evils and slaughter defenders. The choice is ultimately up to you, as long as you find your
Redemption.
A REAL history of Redemption Mud in FAQ-style format...
1. When was Redemption Mud created?
Redemption Mud was created in 2003, several weeks after Neverwinter Nights was first released.
2. Who has contributed to Redemption Mud over the course of its existence?
A much longer question. The very first version of Redemption Mud was created by Reaper and Messiah in 2003.
They both took on different responsibilities in managing the server. The first so-called "Junior" DMs were Shai'tan
and Odin. Their contributions to Redemption Mud were minimal for the next year, and Odin retired within a few months.
The next DM to join the server was Orion, a former veteran player who often went by the name Argonth. He was
a good DM, but eventually retired to help his personal friends build their own server. The player known as Raucous Dragon
Heir was next, joining the DM ranks as Nemesis. He made some of the most influential changes ever to the realm in terms
of balance.
After an extended downtime and some personal disagreements, Messiah assumed full control of Redemption Mud in early 2004 and
has ran it to this day. Shai'tan returned to the scene as a more prominent Creator (The highest rank among Senior DMs).
The veteran player known as Glinus Swift joined the ranks of DMship as FrostFirus. His ability to run frequent
and interesting quests were renowned, until he disappeared (and was forced into retirement) several months in.
Aranan, the most influential DM since Nemesis, joined and with the help of Messiah brought countless, invaluable changes
to Redemption Mud. Due to personal commitments, a dislike for Neverwinter Nights, and the poison known only as World
of Warcraft, he retired after nearly a year.
Messiah and Shai'tan were the sole contributors for the following months. Helm joined the ranks of DM and dazzled
the populace with a constant stream of new and exciting quests and events. Messiah got the idea of holding a public
DM Hunt in 2005. Three loyal and reputable players joined the DM ranks and remain there to this day: Cypher, Arioch,
and Schmurz.
Shai'tan has since retired from Redemption Mud, and at present Messiah, Helm, Cypher, Arioch, and Schmurz are the DMs
of the realm.
3. How is Redemption Mud managed? How is it funded?
Redemption Mud is a non-profit project, it relies solely on volunteers. The donations received from players (and
DMs) are managed on a Paypal account. Often times, server costs have come out of the manager's pockets. The current
management hierarchy is as follows:
Messiah - The oldest bastard on Redemption, around since the very beginning. Head Implementor of all areas and
scripts. Possesses the Veto Stick.
Helm - Senior DM and Content Manager of Redemption. He works constantly with Messiah and the other DMs to develop
new features and tweak existing ones to make Redemption a more entertaining, balanced PW.
Arioch, Cypher, and Schmurz - Junior DMs who run quests and events for the players of Redemption Mud.
4. Why was Redemption Mud created?
Why wasn't Redemption Mud created?
The following questions and answers were roughly based off a synopsis of the PW by Helm.
